6th Manifestation of Video and Electronic Art, Montreal, Canada::Proposal::

DOWNSTREAM is a collaborative process-oriented performance and ensemble integrating dance, performance, audio, video and streaming media by the faculty and students at California State University San Marcos. Through experiential workshops, we develope an approach to dance/movement based on its relationship to audio (microphones are attached to the dancers or props). The work consists of realtime, ambient, amplified and sampled audio produced by the dancers, performers, mixers and muscians. For the live performance we integrate realtime, closed circuit video. The work is performed in front of an audience and is also streamed live, to a virtual, listening audience. DOWNSTREAM MEDIA, 12/7/04 excerpt.

DOWNSTREAM DESERT is being developed in response to our local Southern California desert and the border with Mexico. We are taking into consideration the following as we develop the work:

  • Exploring scale and its effects on the viewer.
  • How the body is configured in the desert through the use of scale in sound, image and performance and through recordings, satellite photos, and video images
  • Utilizing sound as a way to image space

    Ensemble Principles (vitae):
    Tony Allard
    Bill Bradbury
    Kristine Diekman
    Karen Schaffman
