ARTIST STATEMENT:

We were inspired by the works and methods of Anna Mendieta and Shimon Attie. The concepts of “siluetas” from Mendieta and the projection method of Attie were used in our project. We used pictures from past travel experiences and projected them onto a cliff side on the beach. The pictures served as a memory or “silueta” of our journeys. The pictures were projected onto our own “siluetas” that we constructed from rocks and seaweed. The figures that we constructed became part of the projected pictures. We then took digital photos of the projected images. The figures we made had a similar style to Mendieta. They were very simple and represented what we felt our “siluetas” should look like. This is our way of looking into our past experiences and projecting our inner selves into the present.
