CELESTE LAMPRO

TITLE: " Do You Ask 'Why?' "

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I have realized that most people live by the motto “What you don’t know can’t hurt you.” The poignant part is that most people don’t care to know the truth, so they keep on living a life, asking no questions about what goes in to their body and how the body can be affected by it. Factory farming can be compared to mass produced media. Are copies of original art work that have been fed through a printing press, rolled up and shipped away for people’s enjoyment still art? Is milk from a cow that has been raped of its’ natural lifestyle, hooked up to milk machines, injected with chemicals, packaged, then shipped off for people’s enjoyment still milk? This piece encourages people to ask the question, “why?” I am asking you to analyze your own life, and maybe you will discover something new about yourself. If you find nothing new, well I hope you at least enjoyed yourself throughout the journey.

I was raised a vegetarian, but never knew quite why. Recently I have challenged these thoughts and have asked “why?” I now know that I am not a vegetarian because I was raised that way. I know why. I am a vegetarian because I do not like the way animals are treated in factory farms. I am happy that I asked “why?”
