Current Player Rankings (Ladder standings)

Changes -- Additions -- Updates

5/11/97 -- POINT SYSTEM ADDITION -- In order to actually keep skill in the ladder ranking (the whole point), I am making an addition to the point system. When you challenge someone who is higher in rank and you win, in addition to the points scale below you also gain 25% of that player's current points.

5/8/97 -- I changed the point system at the bottom of the page.

5/4/97 -- ONLY PLAY ONE GAME AGAINST YOUR OPPONENT (unless you already started your match and want to finish the best 2 out of 3).

5/2/97 -- Tournament is closed to new entries since people started playing their matches.

Tournament Rules:
  1. All puds are accepted, but must be agreed upon by the two participants. If there are disputes, a built-in should be used. Players are encouraged to use built-ins or KPuds (Kali and Kahn standardized puds -- thoroughly playtested). You can find a link for the KPuds in the "Gaming Links" section of this web site.
  2. All matches are decided by one game only.
  3. For each game, the decision to pick the pud and the settings are split by default. If you pick the pud to play on, your opponent can pick the settings to use (not your race -- you still pick that *and* cheats are always disabled). Settings decided can be FOG on or off, resources to start with, number of units, and game speed (this should remain constant in the game unless both agree to temporarily increase for initial building -- ie. no changing speeds right before an attack!).
  4. One player may decide to give over all decision making rights to their opponent in order to receive more points for a win (see point calculating chart below).
  5. Matches may be played via modem, LAN, etc. unless one of the players has a problem with a particular method (ie. a competitive disadvantage from having a slow home computer).
  6. Email me (Jay) with the results of the game -- I think others may be interested in either watching your matches or at least reading about them, so please announce your games ahead of time if you can and when reporting your loss (yes, loser reports) please provide some information about the game played (ie. which pud, settings, and how it went). I will post some of that information. Also, you may want to take a screen shot of the final "Victory/Loss" screen. If you are using a PC, just hit the "print screen" key and it will save to your war2 directory. I am not sure how the mac people do it, but I will find out.
  7. OK, let the games begin -- please check back here often, as I may add some more rules or change some depending on the responses from other players.

* Win by forfeit -- no points awarded.

** Automatic win due to ladder structure -- no points awarded.

There will be two standard ladders -- Single (one on one combat) and Team (any number). The rules and points outlined below apply to both ladders.

After this initial tournament, there is no need for a formal setup to rise in rank. You can challenge other ladder members at anytime and have your win or loss recorded. Each game awards points to both of the participants, so you are rewarded for trying even if you are not winning. The victor gains additional points as outlined below. These points are used to figure positions on the ladder. You will not lose points for losing, so there is no reason to avoid matches. If you are inactive, another member may pass you on the ladder simply from points (they don't have to play against you). Thus, play often and don't worry about losing ground. The chart below details how points are awarded for matches.

Condition/Factor Points
Points just for playing (applied to both winner and loser). 100
Standard/Basic Win +500
played tournament style (2 out of 3) +100
Underdog (lower rank) wins +50
winner allowed opponent to decide both players' races. +30
winner allowed opponent to decide map. +20
winner allowed opponent to decide resources. +20
