Southwestern Regional Conference
University of Nevada, Las Vegas
April 9, 2005

The members and advisors of Alpha Zeta Chi and the History club would like to extend a special thank you to the members of UNLV's Psi Sigma chapter as well as the other conference attendees for making the Southwestern Regional Conference an extraordinary experience for everyone!

Saturday, April 9, UNLV hosted the Phi Alpha Theta, National History Honor Society Southwest Regional Conference. The Alpha Zeta Chi chapter from CSUSM had seven members in attendance and two faculty members. The purpose of the conference is to present work and share ideas with other PAT chapters. Presenting papers from CSUSM were Chris Mitchell, Greg Peters, Morgan Copeland McCorkle, Stephanie Schott, and William Young. Seven awards were given for "best paper" in different categories, of which only 4 were open to CSUSM students. Out of the four eligible categories, San Marcos students walked away with three of the awards.

The winners from CSUSM were as follows:
Greg Peters: Best Ancient History Paper
Morgan Copeland McCorkle: Best European History Paper
William Young: Best World History Paper

The San Marcos students had a strong showing not only in the awards, but also in shear numbers of participants with the most representaves besides the host institution. Alpha Zeta Chi members beat out representatives from five other states and institutions including Arizona State University, Cal State Fullerton, Texas Tech, United States Air Force, UNLV, University of New Mexico, and University of Texas, El Paso.

On Saturday, April 23, 2006 Phi Alpha Theta members will try to repeat their performance at the Southern California Conference held at Cal Poly Pomona.
