MATH 162
Calculus with Applications, II
This is a home page to accompany a class being taught at CSUSM in the Fall semester of 1997 by David Barsky.
Announcements
1. The Review Session will be held from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, December 16 in Commons 206.
2. There is a typo on the next-to-last line of the Review Sheet distributed on the last day of class: the Final Exam is on Wednesday, December 17 (Not Wednesday, December 2).
3. Another correction for the Review Sheet distributed on the last day of class: the notes on section 10.6 should also mention that we have not covered Examples 1, 2 and 3.
4. I am in the process of filling in the missing course summaries. I gave highest priority to filling in the notes from the end of the course because I figure that these will be of the most use to you. I'm almost done... I just have the last three lectures from November left to post.
You can retrieve
homework assignments,
some summaries of classes from
September ,
October,
November, and
December,
and the
course syllabus
online.
Here are some links that might be of interest to calculus students:
One aspect of our course is supposed to be historical perspectives. You can find a large collection of sites dealing with the history of mathematics on my
MATH 330
page. (Be aware that there is no direct link from that page back to this one; you'll have to either back your way out of there, or else go to the center of my corner of the web and then jump from that page back to here.)
Here's an
archive of mathematical software.
You can get to the calculus files by selecting either "Macintosh Software arranged by subjects" or "MSDOS Software arranged by subjects." Much as I hate to admit it, there seems to be much more free stuff (in Zip format) for MSDOS than for Mac's (in sea format). If you are using a platform that runs MSDOS, you might want to take a look at "Are You Ready for Calculus 2 v 1.03," although I know that some people in the past have had difficulty decompressing it.
For a pretty nice review of first semester calculus on-line (but I didn't see any integral calculus there) give
Karl's Calc Tutor
a try.
calculus@internet
was an interactive WWW server that integrated a common curriculum backbone with links to various computer algebra systems (Theorist, Maple, Mathematica, and others planned) which could be launched automatically by your WWW reader. Unfortunately, the last time that I succeeded in connecting to this site, the links to Maple had not yet been activated. This site may have moved; it's been a while since I've been able to connect to it.
I am always looking for more sites dealing with calculus to add to this page.
Use the link at the bottom of this page to send me the URL of any good page that you find.
