Photography

When I was a graduate student in Rochester, New York, I developed a strong interest in photography, stimulated to a great extent by Eastman Kodak, the Eastman House,  and Rochester Institute of Technology, major Rochester institutions.  I enjoy a renewed interest in the art more recently with a digital camera.  I feel particularly drawn to photographing "found" objects, whether natural or human artifacts, using their textures, shapes, and colors to create abstract compositions.

Click here for an article that I wrote on my personal perspective on photography.

Below are some examples of some of my "creative" photography.

I took the photos in this first group near our previous home in Nassau  Bay, Texas (near NASA's Johnson Space Center).  Click on the thumbnail photo for a full-size version.

The next group consists of some unedited shots taken at Moonlight Beach, Leucadia.   I composed these shots, below tide line during a minus low tide, with awareness of the ephemeral nature of the "objects."  Indeed, the waves washed over and "re-composed" several of them within seconds of clicking the shutter.  Click on the thumbnail photo for a full-size version.

Back in my "film" days I used a Single Lens Reflex camera, which gave me greater creative control.  I recently purchased a digital SLR camera.  It will take a while to learn how to get the most satisfying results with it, but here are some of my initial SLR photos.  Click on the thumbnail for a full-size version.
